The Murano glass fashion jewellery includes a long history that commences with manufacturing of glass pearls. This industry begun in Murano during the 12th century underneath the suggestion of Marco Polo, who had brought some specimens from his travels towards the East. From that period the creation of conterie - the name derives from your Latin compus, meaning adorned, and indicates beads employed for ornament and decoration - has started. Initially the raw material was provided by shards of glass imported from your Orient, which were melted down and reused. Later the pearls were made from glass rods, solid or hollow, elongated from the master along with his assistants. They were then processed according to the ancient and traditional lampwork technique. Through the solid rods lampwork pearls were obtained; in the hollow ones, conterie beads of diverse shapes: round, cylindrical, multi-faceted. All the different objects that could be achieved using this process is enormous: paroures, earrings, bracelets are the most typical. Another kind of strategy is the sommerso, that enables the roll-out of pearls melting gold and silver leaves with glass. According to the processing technique, the glass pearls may be split into two basic categories: conterie, beads obtained from previously prepared rods, or lampwork beads, obtained by wrapping softened glass around an iron rod and then enriching it with some other materials like enamels, gold and avventurine millefiori. The second process is a lot more recent and goes back to 1600. The different types of beads made today by master glassmakers in Murano are: 1) conteria: glass beads round in shape, together with the size traditionally used to create the typical flowers of Venice or perhaps for embroidery on fabric. The traditional process involves lampworking with inclusion of leaves of gold, silver or white gold, in the glass. Nowadays in costume jewellery the term conterie means beads of small size; 2) societa: unique color bead, of spherical or elliptical shape; 3) mosaico or millefiori: engrossed in murrine; 4) sommerso: over a monochromatic glass core, grit of colored glass or maybe a golden leaf is placed, then paid by another layer of superior glass; 5) fiorato: about the core from the initial glass a flat webbing avventurina is used, whilst the ends in the pearl are decorated with wires made with avventurine also. The operation is carried out with colored dots representatives of small flowers. The pearls as well as other decorative elements are then attached to a cotton thread, silver or hypoallergenic metal, to produce necklaces and bracelets. Coming from all this comes the colorful and precious Venetian production. The history continues today with all the modern creations of top quality costume jewellery, like the refined pieces using Murano glass introduced by the Italian designer Gabriella Nanni [http://jewellerycare.meopost.com/2013/10/16/jewellery-care/ fashion jewellery]. Moreover in Venice artisan workshops usually are not uncommon and costume jewellery laboratories and shops - where you could enter and see the roll-out of trendy bijoux - are surprisingly numerous.
