And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,Save thyself, and come down from the cross.Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. Like Jesus, all conquering Christians must endure and overcome the temptation to save their lives and come down from the cross.

-And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. Exo 33:20
 -For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth....Col 3:3-5

 God has condemned the flesh and the rebellious spirit that animates it (Eph 2:2 ) to a painful and humiliating death and because of the shame and non acceptance that this death brings, there is always the tendency for God's followers to doubt the wisdom of His judgement and seek to save the pride and honor of the flesh

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal 2 Cor 4:18

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.Matt 16:21-23

When carrying your cross, do not listen to the lies that the world and your flesh tell you. Keep your eyes focused on the eternal and not on the temporal because those are the things that really matter.

 
Do not listen to the lies that the devil tells you. You are not a disgrace to God or a weakling because you are dying to self and satan and not seeking an escape route from the shameful death of the cross. You are more than a conqueror (Rom 8:37 )

The shame that you suffer is glory in disguise (1 Pet 4:14)

Focus on God

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.Luke 23:35

Remain focused on God and not on what people tell you. You do not bring glory to God by saving your life and proving to the world that you are something. You bring glory to God by dying to self and proving to the world that God is everything.


Remember Lot's wife.Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.Luke 17:32-33

Do not be like Lot's wife. Stay focused on God and His promises, not on the flesh and what you stand to lose by following God. Flee to the mountain (Zion) or else your soul would be consumed by the sin that you return to.


 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.Heb 10:38-39

Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.Matt 24:16-18
